January 2008 - GROUPCALL TEAMS UP WITH MISSING PEOPLE

Groupcall, the leading provider of text and voice messaging systems for the education sector, has announced that it is to support Missing People, the UK's only charity that works with young runaways, missing and unidentified people, their families and others who care for them. The company will donate 10% of the value of all new Groupcall Messenger subscriptions to the charity.

"There is a lot of common ground between the work of Missing People and what Groupcall's Messenger system can offer in helping to keep pupils where they should be - in school," explains Groupcall's Lawrence Royston.

"Together, we will raise the profile of what schools can do to help minimise the risk of pupils running away before they do, but, in the event that a pupil does go missing, we can ensure schools have the tools at their disposal to quickly identify and act upon their absence."

More than two thirds of young people under 18 run away deliberately. The majority are teenagers running away from home, in most cases due to conflict with parents but sometimes in order to escape abuse, or due to problems at school. Some teenagers leave due to a breakdown in relationships with parents, and can remain missing for several years. Around two fifths of young runaways sleep rough while missing and almost one third of young runaways have stayed with a stranger.

"There is a clear synergy between the work that Missing People do in schools and the practical assistance that Groupcall Messenger system can provide in delivering an early and effective alert," commented Paul Tuohy, Chief Executive Officer, Missing People.
