Groupcall and Manchester City Council partnership event

Celebrating Manchester City Council's decision to install Groupcall Messenger in all of their schools.

Tuesday 26 January saw Manchester City Council (MCC) and Sir Bob Geldof address the importance of parental communication strategies. Sir Bob Geldof, co-founder of Groupcall, addressed representatives from 150 Manchester based schools, exploring the issue of unauthorised absences on a nationwide scale.

At the event, which was hosted at Manchester City Football Club, Sir Bob Geldof delivered a speech on how a national problem, such as unauthorised absences, can be eased via parental engagement. The purpose of the event was to celebrate a partnership between Manchester City Council and Groupcall, a leading provider of parental communication products to the education sector, which will see all of MCC’s 167 schools provided with Groupcall’s parental communication system, Groupcall Messenger.

Sir Bob Geldof commented: “In a society where we are in touch with each other more than ever before, the need to communicate meaningfully is essential. Although I am not in love with technology, I am in love with the potential of what it can do. The partnership between Groupcall and MCC is a key example of this; utilising technology to make communication more effective and efficient. I hope more Local Authorities will follow the example of Manchester in implementing parental engagement strategies.”

Head of education services for MCC, Brett Kerton discussed the partnership: “ Messenger systems have many benefits and can make a valuable contribution to supporting schools in raising the achievement of young people through better communication with parents. We look forward to all Manchester schools adopting a consistent approach to parental communication through the use of modern technologies. We believe this will bring numerous benefits. It will not only mean that timekeeping, behaviour and assessment can be monitored and reported on more effectively, but because it makes communication to parents faster and more convenient, both for the school and the parent, it will result in both cost and time savings.”

Emma Sorsby, school administrator at St Paul’s Primary, enthused: “We have used Groupcall Messenger as part of our parental engagement strategy; it has provided an informal way of keeping parents engaged. Communication with parents is much more efficient, but also we can text staff with details of meetings with ease. All school administrators and family workers should use it. It is not a luxury; it is an essential – I couldn’t live without it.”
