How you could save a child's life

Written by Henry Kilshaw | May 25, 2018

The 25th of May is International Missing Children’s Day.

Child safety has always been at the centre of what Groupcall is about. When Lawrence and Joanne joined together with Alex and Sir Bob Geldof way back in 2001, it was to solve the simple problem of schools having no good way to contact parents on a large scale.

At the time, it could take days for a school with hundreds of students to contact every parent if there was a closure or another important update.

From those humble beginnings 17 years ago to today, Groupcall’s products have always been driven by improving outcomes for schools and their students.

So what can you do?

Text ‘hero’ and your postcode to 85080, or register online for Child Rescue Alerts.

In 2013, Groupcall were chosen to provide the technology behind the Child Rescue Alert System in partnership with the National Crime Agency and the charity Missing People. Since then, we have provided the technology that drives the service completely free of charge.

Based on the American AMBER Alert system, Child Rescue Alerts are issued by police when they have a reasonable belief that the missing child is at imminent risk of harm or death and that involving the local community may help bring the child to safety as quickly as possible.

The messages are then distributed to the public around the areas where the child was last known to have been, or further afield if required.

It has literally been lifesaving.

So once again, register online on the Child Rescue Alert website or text ‘hero’ and your postcode to 85080. It’s completely free (other than your normal network charge) and will mean you get Child Rescue Alerts from your area directly to your phone.
